This is where I feel we have done a fairly good job

My parents were really concerned about my education when they came to know that I was performing gigs and it was tough convincing them. The love from the audience keeps them motivated. But later on, when I started helping my family financially, my parents were convinced that I was doing something with my life. For these youngsters too, convincing their parents was a task. It is really difficult to perform concerts at night and attend college in the morning. When asked if there have been any misunderstandings, they unanimously say, "Like every other group we too have had our share of hiccups.Support from home is always minimal when it comes to off-beat career paths. We have to manage our work as well as academics." Remo adds, "For instance, I like singing Bollywood numbers and Chris likes English songs."It is not just the music that we have to deliver, we also have to appeal to people in order to grow in this field. But I feel that our hard work has paid off," they say. Ours is a give and take policy. "I once performed with the band ‘Three of Us’ and it went really well, which is when I thought I should start my own band," says 21-year-old Richard, adding, "The ‘Three of Us’ band members were really helpful and guided us well."The 22-year-old Remo recalls his journey. But we talk. "In 2016, Chris came up to me and said ‘Let us start our band and you can be the vocalist. But after attending our concerts, they have been more encouraging," adds Remo.’ Chris had already spoken to Bala. The three youngsters in their twenties formed this band in September, 2016. But this band has managed to stay ahead of the curve. One such band is Triad that has Remo Ashley on vocals, Chris Richard on the guitar and Bala Raj on the Cajon. "They keep us going and make us forget the hardships we have faced. This is where I feel we have done a fairly good job," said Chris."Starting from scratch, without any economical support to earning Rs 60,000 each per band saw machine Manufacturers外部リンク month, the band has come a long way and has paved the way for other budding artistes. I wasn’t allowed to perform gigs initially.Triad has been growing consistently from the get-go. I thought I would give it a shot and that is how our band was formed," he says. The members continue to steal hearts with their gigs specialising in Bollywood, Western and rock music.Homegrown music is  finding its groove and talented youth are coming together to celebrate covers to jazz acts and everything in between. Not many have a consistent growth in this field, especially when the scene is flooded with young talent.Bala Raj, 24, agrees and says, "I’ve had a rough journey in this profession.

A rage of artistic and utility based products have been

"Tyagi is also interested in sustainable development and likes to help marginalised sections of the art world. Her collection is inspired by seasonal changes."While the artist has previously worked for many well known brands and designed household and lifestyle related products, she shares her experience of working with a team, "As different artists come together, the ideas are only bound to grow. With cement you have a power to mould it in which ever way you want. "We experimented a lot to find out how to come to a specific design, what temperature to work at while handling cement. The young designer, who is also a founder of ‘Craft Beton’ shares that a lot of research went into this project. While some components of other materials have been included in the collection, the calming look that comes along with the greyness of cement makes it class apart.."But what about the greyness of the material? And does the minimalistic look that cement can give work well on products or does it needs enhancement with other materials? Tyagi feels, "While there have been pieces that have used some other materials, I wouldn’t say that cement doesn’t have the power to be worked upon alone." The collection is proof that design in India has made a huge shift towards minimalism and minimalism is here to stay. A rage of artistic and utility based products have been created by designer Iti Tyagi who explored the medium as a part of ‘Craft Beton’. It was very interesting to research on this medium and was also a great learning opportunity as an artist.Tyagi has previously explored metal, wood, glass and embroidery. When she first got the brief for playing with cement and working beautiful pieces out of it, Tyagi was, "confused", she says. There are many pieces in the collection that have only used cement and it has worked out beautifully. If beautiful leaf-shaped bowls, ashtrays, candle holders and trays don’t make one’s head turn, there is also jewellery made out of cement. It is not often that one associates cement with art. At ‘Craft Beton’, we didn’t have any clashes, it was infact a great opportunity for sharing and expanding ideas." She started working on this project in collaboration with a team of three other artists, Alan Saga, Miroslaw Baca and Somesh Singh, who have their own take on this very versatile medium. Every material has it’s own advantages and disadvantages. But when an artist combines such material with ideas located in the beauty of nature, the resulting product is definitely intriguing. After all the medium China saw mills Manufacturers外部リンク has not been explored in the world of art a lot. And unlike plastic or wood, that material has a stronger outcome. She has worked previously with artisans in regions like Balakatti, Moradabad, Saharanpur, Firozabad and Kutch. "But cement is a very versatile material. "Cement can be moulded by hands as well and that works really well for design.

He makes a foray into this eternal vastness

The artist’s instinct for seeing beyond the obvious is something I always have respect for, as he stands head and shoulders above most others. Like the earlier Terracotta show where all the senior artists like Anupam Sud, Gogi Sarojpal, Kavita Nayyar, Seema Kohli etc. Mounted at the NIV centre, the work clearly didn’t "belong" in that space and needed more space around it to say what it was saying. However, when mounting such an experimental body of work, the display needs to be done in very clean lines and spaces that don’t overlap but have enough breathing room. But what is more disturbing is that NIV seems to have made a practice of using senior artists to "support" junior artists to the point of not giving seniors the respect they deserve. His work of wearable art — a jacket of wood shavings, is really experimental yet very cute.Is it then only a matter of perspective Or is there a deeper, more instinctive reason for this "arrangement" These thoughts came bounding as I viewed my dearest friend and one of the most creative abstract artist of our times, Shridhar Iyer’s latest installations Friendly Strangers: Fields of the Universe. It is a new and very important body of work in the context of the artist’s journey into sculptural abstraction that shows a sustained engagement with alternative mediums and new sculpture. I have been very supportive of the NIV initiative and still feel that their heart is in the right place, issues on the ground level must be addressed too. Maybe I have the IQ of a bird or something, but it makes me wonder as to what impels artists to collect objects/things and place them in a specific arrangement in the conviction that it also makes sense to the onlooker. NIV should perhaps reconsider having shows only in better weather in case the air conditioning problem cannot be fixed.Iyer hails from the gharana of contemporary abstraction from Bharat Bhavan and has been exploring the unknown energy and force of the Universe primarily through the medium of painting and drawing. It needed to be "framed" in a better manner for the contextualisation to work. He makes a foray into this eternal vastness that occupies the spaces between us and our known objects.com. It is bad enough that the artists indulge in it, worse is how the hapless audience has been intellectually terrorised into appreciating it like the emperor’s new clothes. The artist has pledged himself to a spiritual connection with the Universe, for him all the energy fields surrounding us are eternal, omnipresent, powerful, ethereal and friendly. were mounted in a second floor gallery with even poorer air conditioning and quirky walls, and a junior nobody given prime space in the printed text and space, this time too, Iyer’s show is mounted upstairs with all the inherent problems intact. This time, Iyer has used wood shavings, fish nets, coconut husk, khus or musk grass tatties to support his thought process of exploring empty spaces that have more energy fields than anything else in the Universe; and all objects, matter, particles we know, constitute fewer than 10 per cent of the universe. Highly experimental in life and work, Iyer has often made forays into installation-based art practices and his installations have drawn a lot of response.Installation of found or chosen objects has been a trend that always manages to puzzle me.This brings us back to the tradition of installations that is usually in the votive and decorative context like the Ganesh pandals, Durga puja pandals, wedding pandals or other pujas, artists would do well to portable saw mill Suppliers外部リンク remember that the audiences need to be educated to appreciate the contemporary thought processes in the stream of installations, or else they might as well stay away from the emperor’s new clothes!Dr Alka Raghuvanshi is an art writer, curator and artist and can be contacted on alkaraghuvanshi@yahoo. He combines this representational quest with the love for the organic and the perishable. One can put garbage in an art gallery and allow it to stink and claim that it is protest against the pollution in the Ganga, or call it a protest against commercialisation of the arts.
